人的欲望是无穷的；不受限制的欲望无疑是贪婪的同义语。相对于人的无限的欲望而言，科学技术与生产力的任何进步都不过是杯水车薪。一种文明如果把掠夺和征服自然（以便使人的无穷欲望得到满足）视为自己的价值圭臬，那么，环境污染与生态危机的出现就是必不可免的。
  
Human beings are reservoirs of unlimited desires。Unchained desires,undoubtly by the synonym of avarice, never comes to an end that all progress of technology and productivity is no more than a drop in the bucket before it。
  Both pollution and ecological crisis would be inevitable if the plundering and conquering of nature,which serve the satisfaction of desire,were held as the terminal value of a civilization。
  
人类目前所面临的环境危机，不是源于科学技术提供资源（或治理污染）的速度慢于人类消费资源（或制造污染）的速度。与以往的历史相比，人类目前所掌握的技术无疑是最先进的；但是，环境危机正是在我们拥有如此空前的技术力量的背景下产生的。因此，环境危机是不能通过单纯的技术手段来解决的。
   
The environmental crisis that we have to face should not be attributed to the speed of our technology in providing sources(or the speed of pollution control)。
  Actually,it is no slower,if not faster than the speed of our consumption(or the speed of producing new pollution)。We now have the most advanced technology ever witnessed in the history,but we also have the environmental crisis given the unprecedented technological force we possess。
  Therefore we can say the crisis can not be resolved through pure technological means。
