其规律由so与such的不同词性决定。such 是形容词，修饰名词或名词词组，so是副词，只能修饰形容词或副 
词。so 还可与表示数量的形容词many，few，much， little连用，形成固定搭配。

　 so many 已成固定搭配，a lot of 虽相当于 many，但 a lot of 为名词性的，只能用such搭配。
   
　 so…that与such…that之间的转换既为 so与such之间的转换。 
   so和such的用法区别： 
It was surprising that little animals eat ____  much grass．（A．so；soB．such；so C．such；such D．so；such）此题所给答案是B，为什么A不对？so和such在句中用法有何区别？  
［答］此题涉及so和such的用法区别：①so是副词，修饰形容词或副词，作状语（如sogood，so fast）；such是形容词，用来修饰名词，作定语。
  ②当名词之前有另外的形容词时，则在此形容词之前一般既可以用such，也可以用so。但要注意不定冠词a ／an的位置。请看下面两道题：  
1．“What a beautiful day！”“Yes．It's that I'd like to take a walk．”  
A．such nice weather B．so nice weather  
C．too nice weather D．nice weather so  
2．It is ____ that we'll have to be very careful．  
A．a so big work B．so big job  
C．such a big job D．such a big work  
第1题选A，such修饰中心词weather；第2题选C，job是可数名词，根据句意，其前应用不定冠词，所以选项B不对（若改成so big ajob就可以了）。
  work一般为不可数名词，所以D不对。  
③当名词为不可数名词或复数名词时，不能用so，而须用such。也就是说，so一般用“so．．．a／an＋名词”结构。因此，上面题1选B是错误的，因为weather为不可数名词。  
④当名词之前有表示数量的词（如m any，m uch，few，little）时，则只能用so来修饰它们，而不能用such。
  例如：  
They have only so much time to do their lessons．他们只有这么多时间做功课。  
He has so little information．他只有那么一点点儿信息。  
注意：只有当many，few，much，little这几个词表示数量时，才用so修饰。
    
卫士同学所问的那道题中的“little”意为“小的”，而不是表示数量，所以，第1个空不能使用so，而要使用such。
