I really can not find any incorrectness in the sentence. look around for is right. Around is adverb as hopelessly. So I just asked an American in my office of New York, and he said that this is a right sentence.
The little boy looked around hopelessly for his toy car.
look for v. 寻找, 期待 look around v. (=look round)到处寻找,察看,观光,游览 看来问题可能就在这： around 和 for要去掉一个字，否则重复了，是吗？
