Data comes in all forms. For example, data may be stored in an XML file, a database, a spreadsheet, an email contacts list, or a text file. Our text uses the gerenic term data store to refer to refer to permanent (”persisted”) data. Vendors each have a different approach to storing data in each of these forms. Access, MySQL, Oracle, or ColfFusion databases don’t store data the same way so that, for example, just can’t use Access to read a table of records and fields created in MySQL.
