stare 是“盯着看，呆看” 常和介词on ,at ,into 连用 例如： He stared at the foreigner in wonder 而look呢 因该很熟悉了 have a look look at sb。
等等 由于这里的逻辑主语是eye和上述词语没关系，所以只能用fix 但是如果要用，就要改一改： Hearing the news of her son's death,mother sat there motionless, staring /looking/ at the window。
