EarthCam has donated webcams that will show views from the Statue of Liberty's torch -- of New York Harbor, boats, even visitors down below. The webcams will be switched on Friday Oct. 28.

Lady Liberty, whose real given name is "Liberty Enlightening the World," will get webcams placed around her torch, allowing live vistas of the New York City skyline and New York Harbor. Cameras also will show her torch -- which has been off-limits to visitors since 1916 -- and the view looking down.

The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, has become an international symbol of democracy and freedom. After 9/11, it was closed for security reasons. The pedestal reopened in 2004, and the statue began readmitting visitors in 2009.
